These terms govern your use of Melanin Match. By signing up or using the app, you agree to them.

What Melanin Match is

Melanin Match is a shade matching tool for melanin-rich skin. It uses your phone camera to read your skin tone, classifies it into one of 24 buckets, and recommends makeup shades from a curated database. It also lets you save shades and rate how they actually fit on your skin.

What you can do

• Use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes.
• Scan as often as you like.
• Save shades and ratings to your account.

What you can't do

• Resell, redistribute, or commercialise data from the app without written permission.
• Scrape the database, automate fake scans, or attempt to reverse-engineer the algorithm.
• Use the app to harass, deceive, or impersonate other users.
• Submit false fit ratings to manipulate aggregate data.
• Use the app if you're under 16 (see Privacy Policy for why).

Recommendations are not guarantees

Shade matching from a digital scan is a starting point, not a guarantee. Real-world factors like skin chemistry, lighting variation, oxidation, and how a product wears across a day all affect how a shade looks on you in person. Always patch-test before committing to a full purchase.

I am not affiliated with the brands recommended by the app unless explicitly stated. Recommendations are based on the algorithmic matching system, not on payment from brands. Brand inclusion is at my sole discretion based on whether the brand serves the full melanin spectrum.

When you click a “Shop now” link, you may be redirected through an affiliate network (Awin, Amazon Associates). I earn a commission if you make a purchase. This doesn't affect which shades are recommended to you. The matches are generated independently of affiliate considerations.

Your account

• You're responsible for keeping your account secure. Don't share your sign-in credentials.
• If you suspect unauthorised access, contact me immediately.
• I may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

My liability

Melanin Match is provided as-is. I make no warranty that:

• A specific shade will perfectly match your skin.
• The app will be available without downtime.
• The recommendations will match your aesthetic preferences.

I am not liable for adverse reactions to products purchased through links from this app. If a product causes a skin reaction, contact the brand or manufacturer.

To the extent allowed by law, my total liability for any claim related to Melanin Match is limited to the amount you paid for using the service, which is currently zero.

Changes

I may update these terms over time. The “Last updated” date will reflect the new version. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
